But have you considered spraying your yoga mat with essential oils? You’ll get the benefits of aromatherapy but if the spray is mixed properly it should not bother anyone else in the yoga studio if you go to yoga sessions. Of course, if practice at home or in a small group, you can probably use a slightly stronger spray, but you never want to be so strong as to become overwhelming.

Adding Essential Oils To Your Yoga Session

You’ll need essential oils and a plastic spray bottle that you can purchase almost anywhere for only a couple of dollars.  A small bottle is better than a large one since you will make only a small mixture of the spray at a time. Choose the essential oils you love that provide energy. Here are a couple of recipes to try but you can create your own original recipe if you prefer. Give these a try to begin.
Energy Spray:
Fill your spray bottle with a cup of water. Add 10 or 12 drops each of grapefruit essential oil and sweet orange oil. Shake to mix the oils and water. Set the nozzle on mist rather than stream and lightly spray your entire yoga mat. You’ll find the extra energy you need as you breathe in the essential oils during your yoga session.
Restorative Spray:
Fill your bottle with water and add 15 to 20 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 to 10 drops of sandalwood and 5 to 10 drops of jasmine essential oil (experiment to find the perfect strength for you). Mix and spray your mat before your yoga session.
Breathing Spray:
Breathing is important in yoga and clearing sinuses helps breathing. Try mixing 10 to 15 drops of eucalyptus oils and 10 drops of peppermint oil to your bottle of water. Mix and spray. You’ll find breathing easier during

Mat Sterilizing Spray
You don’t have to wash your yoga mat daily to keep it smelling fresh and clean as well as germ-free. Fill your water bottle and add 15 drops of tea tree essential oil and 10 drops each of eucalyptus essential oil and lavender essential oil. Some people like to add a few drops of witch hazel as well but some do not like the smell at all. Mix and spray your mat after a session and it will be fresh and clean for your next use. Do wash your mat out every week or so but in the meantime you can keep it fresh with essential oils.
