But no matter what type of massage you enjoy and no matter who provides the massage, you can incorporate the benefits of essential oils into your massage by creating your own massage oil. This will increase both effectiveness and pleasure gained from your massage experience.
It is simple and easy to create your own massage oils. Aromatherapy basics is an easy matter of choosing the carrier oil you like and adding an essential oil or a combination of oils to the carrier in safe quantities. Sweet almond oil is the best choice unless you and / or your masseuse have a nut allergy. Cold pressed coconut oil, grape seed oil and jojoba oil are all good choices if you can’t use almond oil. In a pinch, olive oil will do but it tends to be a bitch sticky, stains sheets and towel and is overall just not as good as the other carrier oils.
Before you begin, locate a glass container, one that is blue or brown or amber because sunlight breaks down essential oil after long term exposure. These containers can easily be located online or at your local health food store.  Of course, if you are only making enough essential oil massage oil for the single massage you are about to enjoy, there is no need to worry about the color of glass in which it is stored. The average massage requires 1 to 2 ounces of massage oil; but why not makes enough to last a while since you are mixing?
