Essential Oil – Essential Oils Diffuser Mon, 21 Mar 2016 02:55:44 +0000 en-US hourly 1 How to Clean Your Yoga Mat the Natural, Inexpensive DIY Way Mon, 21 Mar 2016 02:55:44 +0000 Your yoga mat needs to be cleaned and sanitized to remove germs, bacteria, fungi and odors that occur when you perspire as well as simply when you place your mat on the floor of the yoga studio, gym or even your home. You can get ringworm which is a species of fungus found on frequently-used and well-worn surfaces. As you use your yoga mat you will easily see why the mat could be a good place for this fungus to live. Mats can quickly become smelly from bacteria that find perspiration soaked into the mat a great home. Plus, your mat can get that sticky feel that you won’t enjoy.

Some gyms and yoga studios offer yoga mats for clients to use. While cleansing and sterilization is done after each session, you don’t know how thoroughly this process is performed or what chemicals may be used. By purchasing and caring for your own yoga mat, which will last for a very long time making it a good investment, you know how it is cleaned and with what products. Instead of buying an expensive store marketed mat spray, you can use the same essential oils you probably already have on hand for your Aromasent Essential Oil Mist Diffuser to create a natural, safe cleaning mixture.

Reason essential oils are great to sanitize your yoga mat

Tea tree and My Thieves essential oils have incredible antiseptic properties. Citrus and lavender essential oils have properties that work against bacteria and fungi.
They contain no chemicals Essential oils smell good and inhaling the fumes has mental and physical healing and mood-changing properties
A few tips about using your own essential oil yoga mat spray:
Do not spray the mat in public areas because other people could be allergic and have a bad reaction to the essential oils you have chosen to use.
Keep the amount of water compared to the amount of essential oil in your mixture very high to prevent skin reactions you might have from getting too much essential oil on your skin.
Don’t share your yoga mat with anyone else due to the potential of their reaction to your essential oil mixture as well as their potential transferal of bacteria, fungi or viruses to your mat.
Between cleaning, wipe your mat clean with a damp cloth and let it dry before reuse.
When cleaning with an essential oil mixture, spray a light coating of fine mist solution over your mat and wipe it clean with a clean dry cloth such as a soft towel.
If you are a person who perspires heavily, consider the addition of a yoga towel. These towels are super-absorbent and are made to fit the full length and width of your yoga workout mats, plus they dry really quickly. Most can be machine washed or hand wash, either way you can add a few drops of your natural essential oil yoga mat spray solution to your wash water.
In no case should an essential oil solution be left on your yoga mat for a long duration because some plastics or other compounds can begin to melt or become sticky with long duration exposure to essential oils.
Your supply of yoga mat cleaning solution not being immediately used (like the next few days!) should be stored in dark brown or cobalt blue glass bottled in a cool area that does not get direct sunlight. Get a small colored glass bottle with a spray top that can be used to hold the supply of cleaning solution you will be immediately using.

Now here is a essential oils guide for the natural essential oil yoga mat cleaning solutions:

Enhance Your Yoga Session with Essential Oil Mat Spray Recipes Mon, 18 Jan 2016 19:24:28 +0000 You want to use essential oils for enhancing your yoga session and often placing a drop of oil on a cotton ball for placing in your clothing seems the only way to do this. But have you considered spraying your yoga mat with essential oils? You’ll get the benefits of aromatherapy but if the spray is mixed properly it should not bother anyone else in the yoga studio if you go to yoga sessions. Of course, if practice at home or in a small group, you can probably use a slightly stronger spray, but you never want to be so strong as to become overwhelming.

Adding Essential Oils To Your Yoga Session

You’ll need essential oils and a plastic spray bottle that you can purchase almost anywhere for only a couple of dollars.  A small bottle is better than a large one since you will make only a small mixture of the spray at a time. Choose the essential oils you love that provide energy. Here are a couple of recipes to try but you can create your own original recipe if you prefer. Give these a try to begin.
Energy Spray:
Fill your spray bottle with a cup of water. Add 10 or 12 drops each of grapefruit essential oil and sweet orange oil. Shake to mix the oils and water. Set the nozzle on mist rather than stream and lightly spray your entire yoga mat. You’ll find the extra energy you need as you breathe in the essential oils during your yoga session.
Restorative Spray:
Fill your bottle with water and add 15 to 20 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 to 10 drops of sandalwood and 5 to 10 drops of jasmine essential oil (experiment to find the perfect strength for you). Mix and spray your mat before your yoga session.
Breathing Spray:
Breathing is important in yoga and clearing sinuses helps breathing. Try mixing 10 to 15 drops of eucalyptus oils and 10 drops of peppermint oil to your bottle of water. Mix and spray. You’ll find breathing easier during

your poses

Mat Sterilizing Spray
You don’t have to wash your yoga mat daily to keep it smelling fresh and clean as well as germ-free. Fill your water bottle and add 15 drops of tea tree essential oil and 10 drops each of eucalyptus essential oil and lavender essential oil. Some people like to add a few drops of witch hazel as well but some do not like the smell at all. Mix and spray your mat after a session and it will be fresh and clean for your next use. Do wash your mat out every week or so but in the meantime you can keep it fresh with essential oils.

Favorite Essential Oils for Men and their Benefits Tue, 05 Jan 2016 19:41:31 +0000 Often, men do not think there is any need for essential oils in their lives. Perhaps this is because their spouse or, if single, the ladies they know frequently use flowery scents and men don’t think that there are any masculine essential oils. This belief is totally incorrect. There are lots of practical and beneficial ways men can incorporate therapeutic grade essential oils into their lives. Today, we will look at the men’s favorite essential oils and the benefits when used in aromatherapy via home diffusers for essential oils or in a useful recipe, or through other means of allowing the tiny particles of the oil to enter the lungs or skin.

Seven Most Popular Masculine Essential Oils

First, let’s look at essential oils that have a more masculine scent and the benefits of the male favorites. This does not mean that these same oils do not have benefits for ladies; it only means that men are more likely to essential oilsfind the scent of the oil. These are in alphabetical order, not in order of popularity.
Bay – Do not confuse bay essential oil with bay laurel oil. While they smell similar, they are quite different in their benefits. Bay smells spicy and warm. When properly diluted for direct skin application, it helps heal muscle strains and sprains. Research indicates that placing bay oil directly on the skin or diluted too little, it can impact blood clotting, so only use very small amounts of this essential oil in your carrier oil or cream. When used in hair care products, it reduces oil in oily hair and treats dandruff. It improves circulation when used in the proper dilution.
Black Pepper – Although made from black peppercorns, this essential oil will not make you sneeze or cause your eyes to water. It is popular for blending with other essential oils rather than as the single oil in aromatherapy. It blends well with most other oils and enhances their fragrance. When diluted in any carrier oil alone or in a blend, it helps muscle soreness, and minor strains or sprains. It also helps relieve arthritis pain. It tends to produce a feeling of stamina, alertness, focus and energy when used in aromatherapy blends. Because of the energy and alertness benefit, it is not suggested for use near bedtime.
Cypress – Cypress has a wonderful fresh herb-like, woody scent and also blends very well with other essential oils. Benefits of using cypress essential oil in aromatherapy include energy boost and mental clarity and focus. Benefits of using this essential oil in diluted applications on the skin include treatment of hemorrhoids, varicose veins, oily skin, rheumatism and reducing perspiration.
Ginger – This oil smells warm and spicy and is great for blending with other scents. Because good quality ginger essential oil is very strong, it should not be used in homemade mixtures for topical although it is good for circulation. If you wish to use it topically or orally, go to a local educated herbal specialist and request a safely blended mixture or purchase crystalized ginger slices or ginger tea available at grocers and health food shops. When used for aromatherapy in a diffuser ginger improves digestion, relieves nausea and motion sickness. It uplifts your mood and increases energy and improves libido when used in a diffuser.

What You MUST Know to Use Essential Oil Safely Tue, 23 Jun 2015 18:55:26 +0000 When using essential oils in a diffuser, other device or recipe, you MUST know a few important facts to be safe. The following facts will allow you to do just that.

Using Essential Oils Safety

Dilution: Never use undiluted essential oil directly on the skin. Because the oil is so strong it can produce burning or another negative reaction, up to and including potentially deadly allergic shock. Always dilute the oil in water for diffuser use, a carrier oil or cream such as Shea butter.
Known Allergies: If you have a known allergy, you WILL have an allergic reaction to the essential oil of that substance. No exceptions; and the reaction will most likely be much worse because of the condensed nature of Perfume laboratoryessential oils. A lot of the plant or food to which you are known to be allergic is required to make a single drop of oil so it only makes sense the allergic reaction would be worse.
Skin Test: Perform a safe skin test before using an essential oil you have not used before. To do this, wet a cotton ball and add one drop of oil. Massage the oil into the cotton ball and apply to skin in an inconspicuous spot that you can easily see. Wait 24 to 48 hours to ensure there is no negative reaction such a reddening, itching or appearance of a rash before using the oil.
Read Instructions on Devices: Be sure to completely read instructions included with any diffuser or other device before using. Some diffusers require purified water while others, like the Aromasent, can use plain tap water. Be aware of any precautions included in the instructions such as safe electric practices, what parts of the device should remain dry to ensure the life of your product.
Pricing: When purchasing essential oils, realize that paying more does not mean a better essential oil. Only a few companies in the world mass produce therapeutic quality essential oils because the process is expensiveessential oils and requires vast quantities of plant material. Therefore, the difference in price is largely due to packaging, profit, promotion and public relations. An unusually cheap essential oil, however, may have been diluted with some type of carrier oil or other non-essential product, so avoid any deal that seems too good to be true.

Essential Oil Safety

Storage: Essential oils will last for decades if stored properly. Proper storage means the container should be glass and either amber, brown or blue in color. The top should contain a restrictor so that one drop at a time can be extracted. If a dropper is used, the rubber on the dropper will deteriorate over time and must be replaced to ensure the integrity of the essential oil. Also, keep essential oils in cool, dark locations.
With these simple precautions, you can use essential oils safely and enjoy all the benefits of incorporating essential oils and diffusers in your health and pleasure regimes.

What Are Essential Oils Exactly? Thu, 12 Mar 2015 19:21:07 +0000 If you are considering or have recently purchased an Essential Oil Diffuser or another product that uses essential oil, you may be wondering what essential oils are exactly. It is always wise to understand what you use in your home and around your family, so let’s look at what exactly essential oils are so you can safely use them to choose the best ones for your home use.
Essential oil is the essence of a plant, flower or herb, an aromatic distillate or extraction. It contains all the properties and benefits of the source, including the fragrance, but in a pure form. Essential oils can be extracted from different parts of a plant such as grapefruit oil which is extracted from the fruit rind, or rose oil and rose hip oil.

How To Make Essential Oils

There are several methods used to create essential oil. The most common method for extracting the fragrant oil is steam distillation. Citrus based oils are cold pressed from the rind of the specific citrus fruit. Solvent how to make essential oilsextraction, usually using hexane, is often used for creating the oil from delicate flowers that do not extract well using steam distillation.
Essential oil is used in cosmetics, soaps, cleaning products, perfumes, colognes, massage oil, body lotions, incense and even as food flavorings. It is commonly used in the home in diffusers that gently heat the oil and water mixer and spreads the mist into the room. Other uses are shower diffusers, sachets and stick diffusers.
There are only a few cautions to be concerned about when using essential oils. If you have a known allergy to a scent, food or plant, do not use the oil extracted from that particular plant, fruit or flower because you will likely experience the same allergic reaction to the oil; instead, choose an essential oil that does not cause you an allergic reaction.

Also, if you have multiple allergies, a skin patch test is recommended before using an essential oil. To perform the skin patch test, place one drop of oil on a cotton ball and rub a tiny bit of the oil onto a small patch of skin, usually on the forearm. Wait 48 hours and check the skin patch for any redness or sign of reaction. If none is present, that oil should be safe for use in your home.

What Essential Oils Are Best? Mon, 23 Feb 2015 22:01:46 +0000 If you are adding essential oil aromatherapy into your home through an essential oil diffuser or other device, you may be wondering what oils are best to purchase for use in your home and around your family and pets.  There are a number of considerations in determining what essential oils are best for you.

Selecting Essential Oils For Your Home

Since essential oils cost money, most are not terribly expensive and many companies provide quality oils. Since most people are on a budget, chances are you want to select three or four oils to purchase at a time or whatever number fits your budget. You probably want to begin with a few key essential oils that provide specific aromatherapy benefits based on the needs of you and your family.

For example, if you want peaceful, sounder sleep, you’ll want to purchase lavender essential oil. If you want to give your home a clean smell to remove staleness or cover cooking odors, eucalyptus essential oil will do the trick. The specific device you purchase in which to use essential oil may have come with a basic essential oils guide that describes the benefits of many essential oils. If not, you can look online or check out a book from your local library or purchase a guide to essential oils at a local or online bookstore. Based on the benefits you desire, make a list in order of priority of the essential oils you plan to use.

You can obtain therapeutic grade essential oils online or from your local health food and natural products store. You should choose essential oils that are in glass bottles, preferably brown, blue or violet to reduce essential oildetermination from light over time. The label should clearly state the common name of the plant used to create the oil, the Latin name of the plant, what part of the plant was used to create the product, safety warning information regarding safe use, and the amount of oil in the bottle (for example: 3 ml, 5 ml or 10 ml).

The bottle should have a top that seals well and a cap to permit easy removal of the oil by drops. The label should state the type of distillation method used to produce the oil and in most cases steam distillation is what you want, although citrus peel essential oils like orange, lemon or lime should indicate cold press as the extraction methods because these cannot be steam distilled. You may choose to select essential oils that are made from organic plants but that is really up to your personal standards.

Also, choose oils from aromatherapy stores that are environmentally-conscious (this may require a bit of online research on specific companies that produce essential oils that appeal to you). Look for a company that offers customer service either through a website or telephone number in case you have a problem with the product or need other information.

Aromatherapy Tips For A Pleasant Experience

Purchase small bottles of essential oil unless you use a lot of oil. Because most aromatherapy essential oil diffusers, aroma necklaces and other devices require only three or four drops of essential oil, 5 ml goes quite a long way. When trying a company or specific essential oil that you have not purchased before, buy the smallest available bottle in case you find you don’t enjoy it. You’ll have invested the least amount of money. If you find a few essential oils you use every day and have located a company you love to supply them, consider buying a larger size but not so large that it lasts for over six months.

Be wary of any essential oil offered by a company that is priced far lower than similar products from other sources. The oil may be weakened, made from poor quality plants, or adulterated in other ways. Read online reviews from users of essential oils and see what companies and which essential oils they have enjoyed using. Ask your online friends what companies and which oils they have enjoyed. There is a wealth of information about what essential oils are best based on actual customer experience available on the internet.
Experiment with various essential oils and you’ll build a collection of essential oils that provide different benefits and pleasing scents. Enjoy using essential oils in whatever type of device you choose; you and your family will enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy.
